Julie Hook, BA
Operations Support
Julie Hook (she/her/hers) was born and raised in northern New Jersey. Growing up, her love of the outdoors was born from many summers swimming in lakes and oceans and winters skiing in the Green Mountains of Vermont. After graduating from Emerson College with a BA in Film Production, Julie began a film career in Austin, Texas and California producing fiction and documentary films for notable companies such as Netflix and Amazon Studios. Through her film career, Julie developed a strong passion for telling stories about the natural world and human nature with storytellers who are courageous and bold.
Julie’s love of storytelling and travel has allowed her to spend time in different parts of the country and travel around the world. She is driven by a curiosity to listen and explore and bring new perspectives to challenging topics. By infusing adventure and travel into the work she does, Julie has pursued many personal transformative hiking and backpacking trips. While in California, she spent many summers on the John Muir Trail and completed solo backpacking trips in Iceland and South America. Julie’s connection to the natural world has allowed her to explore a deeper connection to her own story, by developing greater confidence, resilience and self worth. Julie is a positive team member at True North, and empowers others to support True North students for the peaks and valleys of life.
Julie was inspired to move to Vermont after producing an episode of the Netflix series, My Love, featuring a couple living in Williston, VT and revisiting the beauty of the Green Mountains. When Julie is not at True North, she can be found at the pottery studio, skiing with her niece and nephews, camping with friends, reading in her hammock or hiking with her dog, Josie.
